This man has been helped to see for the first time in 20 years thanks to a pair of futuristic-looking electronic glasses.
Mark Cornell became legally blind after a career in the U.S. Air Force lasting for 18 years. Thanks to a company called eSight, he was able to see again [easyazon_link asin=”B00C3UKE88″ locale=”US” new_window=”yes” nofollow=”yes” tag=”uniqhunt-20″ add_to_cart=”yes” cloaking=”no” localization=”default” popups=”default”]using electronic glasses[/easyazon_link] that work by enhancing and magnifying imagery to compensate for vision impairment.
The video of Mark seeing for the first time is actually very emotional and is certainly a big win for science.
On the downside, the device of course wouldn’t be able to help someone who had completely lost their vision. What’s more, they aren’t exactly subtle and make the wearer look a little like Robocop. Think Oculus Rift and you’re on the right lines. Wearing them in public could be a problem but for letting the blind see themselves again for the first time or see their families it’s an incredible advancement. The glasses start at around $15,000.
Oh and for those interested in a transhuman future, who knows how similar technology could someday be used to actually enhance vision beyond normal levels as well!
