For what seems like eons, mankind has dreamed of flight. With the invention of the airplane we’ve been enjoying the skies since 1914, but with the introduction of the automobile we wanted more. After all, why can’t we have our cake and eat it too? Several companies have put the weight of the first commercialized flying car on their shoulders, but one in particular is getting their 15 minutes in the limelight.
Their name is Terrafugia, and they already have a flight-tested basic model they call the Transition, but that’s nothing compared to their next phase in aviation. Their newly proposed model is called the TF-X. While still in its early design phase, this auto-airplane hybrid will take anywhere from 8-12 years of development to come to fruition, but will ideally be able to take off vertically, avoid other air traffic, adjust for extreme weather, and save lives in cases of emergency.

While this flying transportation device is nowhere near realized, your future road trip may not involve the road at all.
