In this hustle and bustle world, getting around on two feet can be hard. Now multiply that difficulty several times. People with disabilities and other maladies have used wheelchairs for quite some time. You probably know someone with a disability. 3 million Americans are wheelchair bound, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring or difficult.
A prototype that started as a student project at ETH Zurich called the Scalevo Wheelchair is revolutionizing wheelchair travel. This baby will traverse any set of stairs with retractable tank-like treads that grip on and smoothly ascend or descend. On the last steps, two extra wheels deploy for a smooth descent to the surface.
