Augmented reality is a term that describes the use of information that is ‘overlaid’ on top of what you’re seeing. For skiers, this means you can get directions, weather reports, messages, speed and more while hurtling down slopes. You can even create virtual gates to add a whole new level of challenge and fun to your favorite sport, or race ‘ghost’ versions of yourself.
Or, perhaps an idea is you could augment the real people with zombie overlays so you can play a game of avoiding the zombified skiers.
The AR layers will be projected about 15 feet in front of you, so there is no more stopping to to take out your phone, and remove your gloves just to have your hands freeze so bad that you can’t use your phone in the first place.
In other words, you can turn real-life skiing into a computer game at the same time as having hands-free access to loads of useful information. It would be awesome if you could get this for your car, except racing ‘ghost’ versions of your best lap times could be frowned upon by the police…
Its certainly an interesting concept, that we do have to take pause when Google glass was such a flop this year. However, this is much cheaper, and has a positive purpose to use in a realistic situation when you are wearing goggles anyway, why not add AR info to them.
The team has turned to indegogo to raise $75,000 for funding needed by February 19th. If you sponsor just $499, you get a chance to own one of these bad boys by Sept 15, 2015, just in time for the new ski and snowboarding season.
