One of the most entertaining aspects of the Mortal Combat series has always been the over-the-top and bloody finishing moves and it looks like Mortal Combat X isn’t about to break this trend.
There are more than a few gory moves on show in the new trailers, including swords being stabbed straight through faces, skulls being buzz-sawed and spines being visibly snapped. With graphical fidelity higher than ever since the release of the Xbox One and PS4 and with blood in games being pretty much par for the course, it makes sense that developers at NetherRealm Studios would have to up their game to keep Mortal Combat one of the goriest fighters on the block.
But it’s not just about gore: the series has also been a great technical fighting game and has often boasted some impressive graphics. This installment looks no different from what we can see in the trailers which shows off a large number of combat moves and some very pretty lighting effects.
The game is set for release on 14 April 2015 and will be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with ports to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 expected to follow. The ‘X’ stands for ten as this is the tenth game in the series.
