It doesn’t take much for us to tire quickly of this modern Hollywood conviction that a superhero-based adaptation can’t be “taken seriously” aping the same grim, rough-hewn “grounded in reality” aesthetic that Warner Bros. in particular seems convinced they can dress every DC property in ad infinitum. With apologies to THE LEGO MOVIE, we like to call it “Everything Is Batman”.
Not gonna lie, though: Adnan Lee’s work stripping various and sundry heroes down to their most “real” layers, from SCOOBY-DOO’s Shaggy to Deadpool, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Raphael, and even an alternate conception of Superman? Respect. If his work looks familiarly engrossing and appealing, he’s the same artist who last week brewed up some just-for-fun concept art imagining Firestorm actor Robbie Amell getting his wish to play Terry McGinnis in a live-action BATMAN BEYOND feature.
