Four of These 100 People Will be Going to Mars
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]If you’ve been reading the news lately then you might have heard about the Mars One mission to send four people to Mars. This is a one way trip because it takes so long and requires so much fuel and prep, so whoever go are essentially going to become the first people land on Mars and the first people to die on Mars.
And in a bad science fiction twist, the whole thing is going to be filmed ala Big Brother. You honestly couldn’t make this stuff up. To learn more about the Mars-one project check out their site.
So it’s an amazing, incredible journey of a lifetime – of a species’ lifetime… and it’s being undermined by reality TV. But whatever. When they get there, some of the living quarters may start to seem a bit small when compared to some of science fiction greatest spaceships sizes.
Now the applicants have been narrowed down to the final 100 finalists. Over 200,000 individuals applied, all of whom had to be at least 18 years old, between 5’2” and 6’3” and possess a specific temperament.
Interviews and tests have whittled the number down to 660 and then 100. The remaining 100 will now go on to train in teams using a recreation of Mars on Earth to experience something close to what it might be like.
Who knows if this will actually end up happening (some experts don’t think it’s likely). But if it does then even the most cynical TV critics will probably end up tuning in…
