Terrified of animals with stingers like bees or wasps? You may even be allergic. Regardless of the bad wrap these insects get, it looks like bees are in some serious trouble in today’s world. Unlike their killer cousins who purpose is little more than to hurt people, bees actually pollinate 1/3 of the world’s food crops.Unfortunately bees are now threatened by pesticides, diseases, but especially a Varroa destructor mite that crawls onto young bees and sucks their blood. This is devastating to their hive because it weakens their immune system and renders them vulnerable. Anand Varma working with the university of california davis has been hired to capture the first 21 days of a bee’s life, but without some real options that work it looks like bees as we know it may simply vanish.

Still, the 60-second timelapse of a bee’s first days is hypnotizzzing, non?
