The island is actually the remains of a dormant volcano but recently it was home to the resurrection of an entire species. That species? The ‘Tree Lobster’ which is basically a big black bug with a tough exoskeleton.
The lobsters were thought to be extinct until recently they were found on Ball’s Pyramid. The size and fierce appearance of these things makes them look intimidating and primeval. The team that found them said it was ‘like stepping back into the Jurassic age’.
