We humans think we’re pretty hard but when the truth is that we’re featherweights compared to some of the other deadly creatures that the Earth has to offer. In fact, our planet’s real killers often aren’t the ones you’d expect (it’s always the quiet ones…) – there are no sharks or alligators in the top five!
Prepared to be surprised at the animals that are the most dangerous? Then read on!
Stonefish
The stonefish is the world’s most venomous fish. As though that wasn’t bad enough however, it’s also highly camouflaged and able to move with lightning reflexes. In other words it’s very easy to step on one which could cause you to lose a foot… if you survived!
Cape Buffalo
These big cow-like animals might look innocuous but they’re actually very aggressive and known to charge completely unprovoked. They can run at 40MPH, weigh around 2,000 pounds and have gigantic horns. Yep, they’re pretty deadly!
Blue Rings Octopus
It looks cute but it carries enough venom to kill 26 full grown men. And there’s no known antidote!
The Brazilian Wandering Spider
Now here’s a spider that you’re right to be scared of. Not only is it huge but it’s also the world’s most venomous spider with a bite that causes horrendous pain and triggers hours-long painful erections in males!
Driver Ants
Driver ants swarm in huge numbers and operate with a hive mind as though they were one creature. Sometimes up to 50 million of them will move together and if you step on one, you’ll invite the wrath of its whole family! Fortunately they’re not too dangerous for humans but they’ve been known to take down pretty large animals which makes for a truly gruesome sight!
Puffer Fish
Awwww. How cute. Doesn’t he look like hes ready to give you kiss? Kiss of DEATH and PAIN and PARALYZING HURT! You think you can threaten him with a meanacing look? Well don’t! When they puff out their spines, they can inject you with paralyzing venom. This fish is also a delicacy among many sushi chefs who train for years how to properly prepare this for your dinner so you don”t die.
Deathstalker Scorpion
This is perhaps the one scorpion you never heard of before, yet its responsible for 3/4 of all scorpion related deaths every year. Most of the deaths are small children.
Black Mamba
This is the one that gives Indiana Jones night terrors. While it looks like an ordinary garden snake, this guy doesn’t like to mess around. The black mamba will chase you faster than the flash when you run because its the fastest moving snake at 6.8 mph up to 141 feet. Unless you are in sub-saharan africa, most likely you won’t run into one. If you do, and get bitten, you have 20 minutes to live.
Cone Snail
Looking kinda like a colorful sea shell, the tiniest drop of venom can kill 20 adults, with small ones similar to a bee sting. So, be careful next time your combing the beach for pretty shells. There are over 600 different species of cone snails, but this deadly snail is found in the warm and tropical oceans. They kill about 15 people a year, so just be careful where you step when on vacation.
Box Jellyfish
So, what is the deadliest animal on earth? Its the box jellyfish. The biggest grows to about 8 inches, and can swim at 4 knots. Don’t try to hide because they have clusters of eyes on each side, so they will hunt you down. If they do catch up with you, each of their tentacles has about 500,000 little harpoon shaped microscopic mechanisms that will inject venom into your flesh. Killing you in 2-5 minutes. Luckily there are few reported deaths from this creature.
